Living on a budget

There are times when you need to live on a budget that means you need to cut out all the little special extras. It may be that you are saving for something special, you may have been off work for a while, or it may just be the way that you choose to live.

No matter what the reason, living on a budget can present some interesting challenges. Here are some ideas about how to make your budget stretch just that little bit further.

Alison Holst's dollars and sense cookbook: eating well for less

Alison Holst

This book is absolutely packed with recipes that will keep your family satisfied without costing the earth. Part of the charm of this book is that the meals are not boring and plain - there are recipes that involve spices and ethnic elements as well as the more traditional meals that everyone loves. This book is a brilliant start for the budget chef and will give you great ideas for some creative cookery of your own.

Brilliant budget dining

Annabel Langbein

This book is great - even though the author uses brand names instead of just saying what kinds of things that you need for the ingredients. The best part about this book is that each section gives you an idea of what the meal might cost on average as well as how long the meal is going to take to prepare. A great little book to give you ideas about budget meals - and the author has even provided helpful shopping lists in the front to help you plan what you need to buy to make the meals in this great book.

Frugal living for dummies

Deborah Taylor-Hough

Sometimes it seem as though there is never enough money. This book takes a thorough look at how you can change your life to take the most advantage of the income that comes into your home. There is advice about how to save money on food, as well as general common sense advice about finding the best uses for your dollar. Although this book is very American, it is a great tool to help you learn how to budget and get the most out of every dollar that you spend.
