Experiences

There are some experiences that a child will face as they grow which are difficult for a child to understand because of their age, or because of a lack of life experience.  As library staff we are often asked for help finding books and other material to help children cope with death, divorce, and everyday things that adults take for granted - like going to the doctor.

For younger children in particular it can be difficult to find appropriate material.  Picture books are often difficult to search for using the catalogue, and it can be difficult to find something just right for your childs age and comprehension.

We have collected together a range of fiction, non-fiction, and picture books that may help you talk to your child about experiences that they may have.  If you would like more help selecting more material about these or other topics, please talk to staff at your local library.
