Key content

The Source is a database of over 18,500 poems, picture books, children’s and young adult novels compiled by the editor of Magpies Magazine. It’s an Australian database that concentrates on Australian and New Zealand titles with a selection from the United Kingdom and the United States.

How can people access The Source?

The Source is available from within the library and from home but requires a login using your library card barcode and pin number.

Search tips

The Source offers four search categories: Books and authors, Poetry and poets, Short stories and Book awards.

Once you have selected the type of information you want you then search by subject, author, title, genre, reading age, illustrator, series, award etc. The Source provides lists of terms to help you out in case you get stuck.

Many of the poems and short stories are available in full text. Otherwise, The Source provides a useful summary or annotation about the work and bibliographic details to help you track it down.

The Source also provides biographical details about authors, illustrators and poets.

The Source includes a cumulative index to articles and reviews from Magpies and The Literature Base.
