The

National Bibliographic Database (NBD)

is the largest bibliographic database in New Zealand with details of more than 9 million holdings of materials held in New Zealand libraries.
The database includes the National Union Catalogue that contains records of New Zealand and overseas resources, with details of which New Zealand libraries have holdings.


Search tips


  • Select the National Bibliographic Database and click ‘connect’ to search the NBD.
  • Try a Simple search by typing in a keyword, title, author, or subject.
  • To search only for records that have holdings use the 'With holdings' Quick limit.
  • Click on ‘More limits’ to limit by date, language, item type, place of publication.
  • The Advanced search gives the option of searching up to three terms at a time.
