Key content
Standards are available to be viewed in PDF format from library computers. They can not be saved or printed.
The catalogue contains both:
- New Zealand (NZS) standards
- Joint Australian / New Zealand (AS/NZS) standards.
Keeping up to date with standards
- Draft standards are available for public comment for a specified period (usually 8 weeks). Drafts can be downloaded free. Locate under ‘Drafts for comment’ tab.
- Register for the Standards New Zealand free email update service (from within the item detail of all standards).
- The Standards New Zealand Update magazine is published monthly and contains information about recently published standards, drafts available for public comment, standards superseded and/or withdrawn and projects currently on the go. Locate under the ‘News and seminars’ tab.

Browse by industry. Locate under ‘Catalogue by Industry Sector’ tab.
Browse standards and legislation
Find information about standards cited in legislation or regulation by browsing the relevant sector. Locate under ‘Standards & Legislation’ tab.
To find the Building Code follow the steps below:
- Click on the 'Standards & Legislation' tab
- Click on 'Department of Building and Housing'
- Click on the 'Building' tab
- Click on 'Building code' (under the heading 'Building law and compliance)
- Click on 'Get a copy of the Building Code'
Note: You do get to see a list of the clauses of the Building code by clicking on the 'Standards & Legislation' tab, then the 'Building' tab, but you don't get to see the actual code itself.
Browse drafts
Browse or search for specific drafts by selecting draft status and using a keyword or number. Located under ‘Drafts for Comment’ tab.
Note: Draft standards are only available through this database. They are not available in hard copy from the collection housed at the Central City Library.
Search
Search the NZ Standards & AS/NZS catalogue by name, keyword, or number.
Limit by current, draft, superseded, or withdrawn status. Searching by status 'All' will search standards in all of these at the same time.
Note: You can search the catalogue for ISO, IEC, BSI standards. Information about these is provided, but the standards are not available to view online. A hard copy of ISO standards can be viewed or borrowed from the first floor of the Central City Library.

Restrictions of use
Access
This database can be accessed from computers in all branches of Auckland City Libraries. It can not be accessed from a computer outside the library. A library card barcode and PIN is required to login.
Printing and saving standards
Copyright, or the exclusive right to copy, exists for all documents published by Standards New Zealand. Standards in this database may not be printed or saved under any circumstances. More information about copyright and standards.
Purchasing standards
The shopping cart feature is not available from this database. If you wish to purchase a standard please email Standards New Zealand directly or purchase using the shopping cart on the main Standards New Zealand website (if you are logged into the database just click the 'logout' button).
Interloan
If the library does not hold the standard you need, and it is not available in the database, we may be able to interloan it from another library for you. More information about interloans.
