Four main search and browse options:
- Quick search - a fast and efficient search option available from every page
- Advanced search - use for more refined searches, e.g. search a specified number of subject areas, limit to people or dates only
- Browse the whole database - view entry headings in the A-Z sequence in which entries appear in the printed book
- Search within a subject - choose from one of the subjects listed on the home page for more refined searching or browsing.
From the list of search results you can
- Reorder results by category – e.g. choose the quotations tab along the top to move quotations to the top of the results list
- Refine results by subject – select a subject link from the left-hand column to limit results to a specific subject e.g. literature or maps and illustrations
- Widen your search – no relevant results? Broaden your search with one click of a button.
