Key content / Search tips A searchable database of New Zealand legislation that is updated regularly. Key content Legislation NZ contains four Acts databases of Public, Reprinted, Local, and Private Acts since 1858. The Acts are updated daily so you can be sure of finding the latest amendment to an Act here. Legislation NZ also contains Bills, Supplementary Order Papers (SOPs), and Regulations. See the Parliamentary Counsel Office website for an explanation of the different types of legislation. The Acts in Legislation NZ are not consolidated, which means that any amendments to an Act are found in the database in a new record rather than the original record being added to. So when reading a section of an Act you can not tell if it has been amended or not. To see the current version of an Act it pays to also check a consolidated version through the Public Access to Legislation (PAL) website. Just remember that the PAL version is generally several weeks out of date so you'll need to use the Legislation NZ database to find any recent amendments. Search one or more of the databases at the same time. Use the First Search box and tick the boxes to select which zones to search: All – searches the full text of the legislation Title – searches within section or part titles Headings – searches in the legislation names Complex full text searches can be created by typing in multiple search terms combined with the available search operators and brackets. Click on the Help button from the database homepage for more information on advanced searching. Tip: To search for amendments to an Act type the name of the Act into the First Search box and Select Zone 'headings' and in the Second Search box type 'amendment' and Select Zone 'all'.
Tip: Choose a date range to limit your search to a particular time period.
Tip: Always click on the Search button to start your search. If you hit ‘Enter’, you’ll lose your search, but all is not lost – ‘Backspace’ will get it back! |
