Guide to secure use

Auckland City Libraries provides public access to the internet and computer resources as part of its role in providing access to information, education and leisure opportunities for the whole community and to support lifelong learning.

Customers will treat the equipment with respect and abide by Auckland City Bylaws. The computers must NOT be used for any illegal activities.
The computers are set up for ease of use and provide high levels of security.
We recommend customers choose Akozone account machines for any private transactions, eg banking as these have the higher level of security.

You can help further protect the security of your data when using an Akozone account machine by:

  • locking the screen using Ctrl Alt Del if you move away to print during your session
  • saving any data and work from your session to your own disk, memory stick or CDR, or
emailing it before ending your session
  • logging out at the end of your session.

The machine will then reboot and clear all data and history.

“Walk up” machines have a lower level of security. They are cleared of all data and history when they are rebooted once a day.

You can help further protect the security of your data when using a “walk up’ machine by:

  • saving any data and work from your session to your own disk, memory stick or CDR or email it, then delete any files before leaving the computer.

Auckland City Libraries accepts no responsibility for your data. The security of your data and saving your work is your responsibility at all times.

Library staff will monitor use of the computers. Any unacceptable use may result in a customer being prohibited from enjoying internet and computer access in the library.
