Tips for parents/caregivers

Akozone homework centres will:

  • encourage children to learn and practise study skills that they can use throughout their lives
  • teach them to work independently, collaboratively and encourage responsibility
  • help them to achieve more at school
  • help to make more confident and enthusiastic learners.

Your child will be able to:

  • practise what they have learned at school
  • get ready for the next day's class
  • use and become familiar with encyclopedias, atlases, dictionaries, newspapers, and the books in the library
  • use the internet safely and effectively
  • learn about interesting things they may not have the time to explore at school
  • enjoy learning in an informal and welcoming library environment
  • have time to read for enjoyment.

You can help by:

  • showing that you think learning and homework are important
  • ask them about what they have learned today and what they need to do for tomorrow
  • help them plan their time and meet deadlines
  • encourage and praise their efforts
  • say “well done!”
