Commonwealth Writers Prize

Another prize restricted to Commonwealth writers. What makes the prize interesting is that it is divided into four regions—Africa, The Caribbean & Canada, Eurasia, and South East Asia & the South Pacific. Both a best novel and best first novel are selected from each of the regions, from which an overall winner is selected.

Guardian First Book Award

This award was started in 1999, and is given to a first book, whether fiction, non-fiction or poetry. Claims to be the "first people’s book award" as the long list is whittled down by four reading groups based at Border’s bookshops in the UK.

Orange Prize for Fiction

The Orange Prize for Fiction honours women’s writing published in the UK. The award came about because of the lack of female writers appearing in the traditional award lists. The winner receives a cash prize and a brass figurine known as a "Bessie".

Stonewall Book Award

Barbara Gittings Literature Award for Fiction
