At Auckland City Libraries, membership gives you access to a world of information. You can borrow the latest books, CDs, DVDs and more.
We also have vast reference collections, eResources that you can access from home, and heritage collections for family history or research.
Am I entitled to free membership?
Auckland City Libraries are funded from rates. This entitles Auckland city ratepayers and residents to free membership of the Libraries.

Membership categories
- Membership is free for residents and ratepayers of Auckland city.
- Free membership is also offered to students under 18 who live outside Auckland city, but attend a school in Auckland city (see how to join the library for more information).
- Corporate membership is offered to companies and early childhood agencies that are located within Auckland city.
- Other membership categories are also available for some residents and ratepayers.
- Subscription membership is available for people who live outside Auckland city.
Visitors
Visitors to the Central City Library are welcome to come in and browse our shelves. If you want to access the internet in the library there are short term internet accounts available, and you are able to use any of our unrestricted databases. Also talk to the reference staff if you wish to have a look at any items from the basement.
