Collections 

Leys Institute collection in 1905. In 1905 the Leys Institute lending library contained “3,000 volumes including the best standard and modern fiction, besides many books of biography, travel, history, and philosophy“. For a taste of fiction at the beginning of the last century check out the fiction historical collection.


In 2005 the lending collections at Leys Institute Library contained over 25,000 volumes including:Leys Institute Library 2005

Fiction the best standard and modern fiction.

Non-fiction covers a wide range of subject areas from philosophy and history to interior design and pet care. This is supported by our eResources.

A wide range of magazines are available including:  Australian House and Garden, Arena, Paris Match, Country Life and Conde Nast traveler.

DVDs, videos and music CDs are available.

The What's Hot collection contains in-demand books, DVDs, CDs and magazines. 

Large print books.

Audio-books - these are available on cassette tape and in CD format. 

Ngā Mātauranga Māori (Māori Knowledge) is a collection of books on all aspects of Māori art, culture and history.


Collections for children

The Leys Institute Hilary Memorial Wing was opened in 1958.

The wing contains the childrens fiction collections, audio and interactive collections and the collections for younger children including picture books, board books, puzzles, music and story CDs, and junior easy readers.

Our parenting collection groups books on pregnancy, babies and children and is convienetly located here in the children's wing.
