On Saturday 6 October Auckland City Libraries hosted a unique event as volunteers from the Outreach Therapy Pets programme and their animals visited our libraries.
Over 30 volunteers visited 15 libraries, along with their cats and dogs. It was an enjoyable event for volunteers, library staff, and library visitors. Here are some of the photographs from the visits.

The Outreach Therapy Pets programme is the longest running therapy pets programme in New Zealand, starting in 1988.
In 2003 St John and the Auckland SPCA joined forces to provide the service, and the programme has now grown beyond the Greater Auckland Region.
There are 180 volunteers who take part in the programme, and visits are made to 220 facilities which includes rest homes, private hospitals, public hospitals, schools, and other facilities for youth.
There is a wide range of animals who visit these facilities, including: dogs, cats, rabbits, donkeys, miniature horses, miniature donkeys, llamas, and goats.
For more information about the programme you can visit the Auckland SPCA website, or the St John website.
