After a separation or divorce parents often go on to form new relationships. Whatever form the new relationship takes, it means that any children will face challenges and new experiences as they adjust to the new family dynamics.
Unlike fairytales where the step mother or father is an evil figure who wants to get rid of the children - most modern step parents are loving extensions of the family that provide love and support to the children in their lives.

Matt and his dad have been together for years and they do everything together and Matt loves the fact that it is just the two of them - but then Susan and her son Edward move in. Nothing is the same and Matt is very unhappy no matter what happens. A fantastic picture book for introducing children to the idea of stepfamilies in a realistic way.

Dad has a new girlfriend who he calls Sweetie Pie - and she is very strange. She sings to her goldfish, talks to the neighbours in French, and Japanese to her plants. But she also listens without the TV on, helps with spelling words, and rubs away headaches. This is a brilliant book for introducing the idea of girlfriends to children after a divorce as it shows the good and the bad side of living in a blended relationship with a potential new parent.
