100 artists who shaped world history

Barbara Krystal

This book provides a one page summary of the life of the artist, what inspired their art, and what kinds of things that they painted.  There is only basic information in this book, but it is a good place to start if you are looking for someone to study or only need basic facts.

100 explorers who shaped world history

Jerome Prescott

Covering a wide range of explorers throughout history, this book is a great place to start if you need basic information - or if you haven't decided who to study yet.  There is a strong focus on American explorers, but there is also mention of New Zealand's own Sir. Hillary.
