On Board the Agamemnon

May 19th 1795

Horatio Nelson

Notes

This fragment is the earliest of the Nelson relics at Auckland City Libraries.

Agamemnon was the sixteenth ship Nelson had served in, since beginning his naval career as a midshipman in Raisonnable in 1771. Agamemnon was a two-decked 64-gun battleship, which Nelson commanded for 3 years, 1793-1796. During this time Agamemnon was continuously in the Mediterranean, often detached from the main fleet. This gave Nelson experience of independent command.
