Death Notices Index 1886-1946

This is an index of death notices from the New Zealand Herald and some from the Auckland Star, from 1886 to 12 February 1946.   The index cards are filed alphabetically by surname and follow one of three formats:

  • Surname, first name(s), date of death, age
Death clippings, year range, page - this refers to a specific volume of the blue covered Clippings Scrapbook.
  • Surname, first name(s), date of death
New Zealand Herald Monthly Summary, date, page - we strongly advise you to go to the  original death notice, a day or two after the date of death, as the Monthly Summary often contains less information.
  • Surname, first name(s), date of death
New Zealand Herald, date - go directly to the specific issue

Clipping scrapbooks

These start from 16 October 1911, but there are some gaps in the 1914 to 1929 period. The earlier dark blue volumes are just above the index itself, but the unbound volumes continue beyond the cut off date for indexing.

There is absolutely no photocopying from the Death Notice scrapbooks.
