This exhibition contains more than 50 works of intricate craftsmanship from the Special Collections of Auckland City Libraries. These works take a variety of forms, use many methods and media and cover a very broad subject range. Free entry. Guided tours by arrangement.
 Jonah Judith Ruth; three stories from the Old Testament. Greenbrae, California: Allen Press, 1984.
In this book Lewis and Dorothy Allen have used the typefaces Romanée for the main text, which is printed in brown, and Solemnis for display, which is printed in orange. The characters from ancient biblical languages, which run across the heads of the pages, are printed in blue and brown.
 Chanson de toile. Sérigraphies de Judith Rothchild. Octon: Verdigris, 1998.
Chanson de toile is an anonymous twelfth century lyric poem, printed by Mark Lintott in an edition of 25 copies at the Verdigris Press in France. Judith Rothchild's silkscreen prints for Chanson de toile were printed in four colours by the artist.
 Marco’s animal alphabet. Enid Marx. Oldham: Incline Press, 2000.
Enid Marx (or Marco) produced these linocuts in 1979, but no formal edition of these prints was made until this Incline Press edition, printed by Graham Moss in 2000. Although Enid Marx died in 1998, she was involved in the planning of this work, and fully approved of the colour schemes and pochoir additions provided by Peter Allen.

Books are usually square or rectangular, following the shape of a folded sheet of paper. However some artists like to play with the traditional shape of books and employ an unfamiliar format.
Elizabeth Steiner’s Moeraki Boulders has circular pages, which reflect the shape of the spherical boulders of the book’s title. She describes the book as "an object to be held by one person", so that "the boulders have been scaled down to the size of a hand held stone…" The different papers that make up the book have torn edges, and are held together by a folded and interlocking paper hinge.

The Triangle forms the motif of Ivan Soll’s witty meditation on the connection between geometry and life. Marta Gomez’s design creates a visual representation of lines such as "Brought to despair by the confines of the pair some try triangles. But trying triangles often results in trying triangles." |
