Securing the shadow: early photographers in New Zealand

6 - 23 June 2006

Atrium, Level Two, Central City Library

An exhibition of early photographers operating in New Zealand during the nineteenth century. The exhibition highlights the release of Auckland City Libraries photographers database (below).

In conjunction with the Auckland Festival of Photography

Photographers database

The Photographers’ Database is maintained by our Special Collections team. It is an index to photographers who have worked in New Zealand from the 1840s to the present day. It draws on advertisements, newspapers, electoral rolls, published articles, trade directories, and other resources to build up a picture of the individuals and their businesses.

The database is not exhaustive - if you would like to know any additional information about a particular photographer, you are welcome to contact Special Collections by email.
