Te Uhi Mataora

Kia whakakōrerohia ai ngā tohu me ngā ritenga hoki e pā ana ki te mahi tū rangatira me te mana hoki. Kia whakahāpaitia e te tangata te kōrero nei tae noa ki tana haerenga ki te kainga tūturu o ngā iwi Māori.
Te Uhi Mataora explores the voice of Tā Moko, from inception to completion, from the opening of the skin the story is told through the lines and patterns, communicating identity, authority, pride and dignity. A journey travelled through pain not ending until the final meeting with Hine-nui-te-pō.
Rau Whakairo
Ko te tīmatanga o te whakaaro nui, ko te mana motuhake o te iwi, me ngā tātai whakaheke nō ngā ātua me ngā tūpuna me te pūtaiao tūroa hoki. Ka kōrero atu ngā mahi ritenga ki tēnā iwi, ki tēnā iwi, kia whakaata ngā whakaaro, ngā kōrero hoki o tērā wā.
Provides an avenue where the tohunga or artist interprets the wairua of the surrounding environment. The symbolism within rau whakairo speaks differently to each person, portraying their whakaaro and kōrero at that space in time.
Tuhi Māreikura

This event is a Māori speech competition for all Auckland Secondary Schools. The name of this competition – Ngā Manu Korokī o Tāmaki Pātaka Kōrero comes from the whakatauki above ‘korokī te manu i te ata’.
It is with hope that this event provides another opportunity that strengthens the stance of our young people to speak Māori. |
