Te Uhi Mataora explores the voice of Tā Moko, from inception to completion, from the opening of the skin the story is told through the lines and patterns, communicating identity, authority, pride and dignity. A journey travelled through pain not ending until the final meeting with Hine-nui-te-pō.

This event is a Māori speech competition for all Auckland Secondary Schools. The name of this competition – Ngā Manu Korokī o Tāmaki Pātaka Kōrero comes from the whakatauki above ‘korokī te manu i te ata’.
It is with hope that this event provides another opportunity that strengthens the stance of our young people to speak Māori. |
