Music heritage resources

Music programmes collection

The music programme collection is made up of concert programmes from the Auckland region. Dating from 1848 through to the present, the collection provides a profile of the cultural life of Auckland city.

Use the Index Auckland database to search for material. The Music Programme Collection is located in Special Collections at Central City Library.

 

Ephemera collection

Ephemera is a term for printed material with a limited life-span - tickets, flyers, cards, programmes, posters, etc - which is produced to pass on details about specific issues, activities, events, products, and services.

Ephemera in the library's three ephemera collections date from the 1840s to the present day; items can be located using the Ephemera Index

  

Reference sound recordings

A reference collection of sound recordings of New Zealand music is available for use in the Special Collections department of Central City Library. The collection is comprised of a wide array of New Zealand music from Edwin Carr to Nesian Mystik in a variety of formats - LP records, cassettes and compact discs.

There a duplicate lending copies of most reference material. Search the catalogue to find material.

 

Sheet music

We house a comprehensive collection of New Zealand sheet music. The breadth of material is diverse and includes such gems as the original manuscript of God defend New Zealand and more contemporary classics in Nature's best: New Zealand's top 30 songs of all-time.

Like the sound recording collections, lending copies of material are also available and may be searched on the catalogue.

 

Māori material in Te Kohinga Matua

Material for researching Māori music is available in Te Kohinga Matua in the Central City Library. Resources include reference books, videos and sound recordings.
