Oral history collection

Recordings of oral history in Special Collections.

Special Collections possesses a small collection of oral history recordings. The collection is not recorded on the library catalogue, but an inventory of its contents is available at the Special Collections reading room.

Items of interest in the collection include:
  • A general history of Auckland in the 1930s.
     
  • Oral histories of selected Auckland suburbs and satellite communities: Grey Lynn, Blockhouse Bay, Avondale, Mt Wellington, Glen Innes and Helensville.
     
  • Accounts of Auckland dance bands, and entertainment in Auckland after 1945.
     
  • Memories of the Kaipara region.
     
The collection can only be used in the Central City Library.
