Mangroves

These fascinating plants make a big impact on their environment, and play a vital role in ecology systems around the world. You can see mangroves within the Auckland City area - read on if you would like to find out more about them.

Books in the library collections:

It isn’t easy to browse along the shelves for books on mangroves, as the books are scattered across the Dewey numbers in our collections for ecology, environment, biology, coasts, and botany. The easiest way to find all of our books is to search for mangrove? in the catalogue. The “?” will ensure that you find both “mangrove” and “mangroves”. You can expand your search more into the environment and ecology, by doing a search for salt marsh?.

Much of the materials we have concerning mangroves are kept in the basement storage areas at the Central Library - just present your library card to a reference desk and staff can retrieve the items for you.

Magazines in the library collections:

There are many articles in magazines about mangroves. To find them, search for keywords in our online databases.  If you want to concentrate on New Zealand, use only the New Zealand databases. However, there are many articles from around the world on these plants, so you may want to expand your search to include the international online databases. If you are not certain which database to use, ask a librarian for help.
