Rugby union

Rugby union rugby is arguably New Zealand’s most popular sport. The first game of rugby was played in New Zealand was in 1870. The New Zealand Rugby Football Union was formed in 1892 after the formation of regional unions in Auckland, Canterbury and Wellington.

The inaugural Rugby World Cup was promoted by New Zealand and Australia. In the final held at Eden Park, Auckland, New Zealand, The All Blacks beat France 29 – 9 to become the first holders of the Webb Ellis Cup.This month New Zealand will compete in the 5th Rugby World Cup which is being held in France.
