Road Test Index

Over a number of years, Auckland City Libraries has been selectively indexing the road tests in many of their holdings of car and motorbike magazines. Entries range in date from the early 1960s to 2006. This index was converted from a card system to electronic format in 2002.

What you will find:

  • cars (including sporting models, but not racing cars or non-standard modified models)
  • light commercial vans, including utilities, 4-wheel-drive vehicles, sport utility vehicles (SUVs), multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) and recreational vehicles ( RVs).  Trucks are not included
  • motorbikes, motorcycles (no modified or non-standard models), mopeds, scooters and farmbikes
  • all vehicles which we believe will be imported in reasonable numbers into New Zealand.  Therefore, on this premise, we tend not to index the majority of cars made in the United States of America
  • indexed reviews are at least half a page in length.

As the index has developed over the years, more fields have been added to the search list.  Earlier entries, therefore, will not contain as much information.  Minimum data will be: make, model, transmission, number of doors, engine size (in cc), magazine name and issue.
