Columbia Granger's Index to Poetry

Try this book if you're asking "Where can I find a copy of a poem called…", "What is the poem (or who wrote the poem) that begins with the line… " or "Where can I find poems about… " Look up a poem by title, first line, author or subject and find the titles of the anthologies where you can find it.


Contemporary Poets

Updated in 2001, this edition provides biographical and bibliographic information, as well as brief critical essays, on some of the world's most important English-language poets, be they Filipinos, New Zealanders or Americans.


The New Princeton Encyclopedia of Poetry and Poetics

A one-volume reference work dealing with all aspects of poetry: history, types, movements, genre, rhetoric and critical terminology. Noted for its worldwide orientation on the poetry of national and cultural groups.


Critical Survey of Poetry (Foreign Language Series)

Four volumes plus index containing critical studies of 200 poets, from Apollinaire to Zweig, whose works have had an important influence on the literature of their native language.


World Poets (Scribner Writers Series)

Three volumes with individual entries on major poets with photographs, sample poems and bibliographies; plus thematic essays on subjects such as "troubadours" and "performance poetry". Mainly oriented towards students.
