Plays

“All the world's a stage and all the men and women merely players”

--  As you like it, by William Shakespeare.

Auckland City Libraries has a large collection of plays and critical studies on drama.

If you are looking for plays as literary works - ie. texts and criticism - you will find them shelved in the 800s. If you are looking for books on theatre and stage production, you will find them shelved at 792.

Useful shelf (Dewey) numbers:

792       History of Theatre and Play Production

808.82  Monologues and audition pieces

812       American plays

822       English plays

822.99   New Zealand plays

If you have difficulty locating a particular play, please ask us for assistance. We may be able to locate the play in an anthology, or interloan it from another library in New Zealand.

Alternatively, if the play is still in print, we can request that the library purchase a copy.
