Classical literature

For two jars stand on the floor of Zeus of the gifts which he gives, one of evils and another of blessings. -- Homer

Classical literature -- the literature of Greco-Roman antiquity -- can offer rewarding insights into today's world. It encompasses poetry, epic poetry, drama, speeches, letters, satire and other miscellaneous writings. The library holds a solid collection of key classical texts and related critical works.

LOEB collection

The LOEB Classical Library is a comprehensive collection of the most important texts of the classical period, in original language with facing-page English translation. These books are stored in the basement at the Central City Library and are available for loan.
