Find answers to questions in the quiz by searching the What do I read next? database.

 

1. I enjoyed the novel Paris trance. I’d like to read another book with similar themes, specifically drugs and relationships.  What would you recommend me, using this database?

Hint:

use ‘Help Me Find a Book’ and enter the title.  A list of themes will come up to search by.  Check the themes given and save a title to your keeper list.

 

2. I also read a novel by Philip K. Dick and would like to read more. Can you find a list of his books?

Hint:

use ‘Author Search’ to bring up a list of titles

 

3. I am interested in reading a adult historical novel, about suffragettes in England. Can you find a couple of suggestions and save them to the keeper list?

Hint:

make sure the fiction and adult check boxes are ticked.  Choose suffragette as a character depicter and enter England as a location.

 

4. My friend recommended I start reading the Pern novels, by Anne McCaffrey.  Can you find the first two books and add them to the keeper list?

Hint:

use ‘Title and Series Search’ and enter Pern as a series name keyword.  Click on the search result, enter the title record for the first book and click the ‘Add to Keeper List’ button on the side.  Go back and add the second book.

 

5. Find a young adult novel set in the Russian Revolution and add it to the keeper list.

Hint:

use genre search and select ‘Russian Revolution’ under historical. Make sure the ‘young adult’ box is checked.

 

6. Find the latest winner of the Spur Award for best western fiction and add it to the keeper list.

Hint:

go into ‘Award Winners and Top Picks’ and find the correct award in the drop down menu. 

 

7. What award has the young adult novel Deliver us from Evie won? How are the winners of this award chosen?

Hint:

 do a title search for Deliver us from Evie, then click on the award title.

 

8. Find a list of books for young children dealing with the Holocaust.

Hint:

go into ‘Award Winners and Top Picks’ and find a list under ‘Expert Picks’

 

9.  I read Francesca Lia Block's Weetzie Bat young adult novels as a teenager, and I've heard she's recently published an adult novel about the same character.  Find it and add it to the keeper list.

Hint:

 use 'Custom Search' and enter Weetzie Bat as a character name, making sure only the adult and fiction boxes are ticket.  Add the most recent title.

 

10.  View your keeper list!  Success!
