Find answers to the questions in this quiz by searching Grove Art.
1. Find an article on book illustration. Name two 20th century children’s book illustrators.
Hint: Enter keywords in the search box at the top of the page. Try “book illustration” or “children illustrator 20th century”. Or try the A-Z browse feature to find the article (use the “go to” box move through the A-Z faster).
2. Find an overview of Leonardo da Vinci’s life and work. Then locate information on his ephemeral designs and find an image of the Mona Lisa.
Hint: Use advanced search. Under the “biographies” tab search for 'da Vinci'. Use the table of contents column to locate specific information in the article and use the “image links” and “illustrations” tabs to find images.
3. Search for images of Campbell’s Soup artwork by Andy Warhol.
Hint: Explore the image search from the homepage.
4. Find information about artists that have used images of sunflowers in their work.
Hint: Choose the “captions” tab from within the advanced search. Search using keyword ‘sunflowers’. Try using the same keyword in the article search box and the full text search. Compare your results.
5. Find information about the history of ceramics in Japan.
Hint: Use the ‘Explore’ menu. Select ceramics from ‘Art and Art Forms’ and select East Asia from ‘Geography’. Can also limit by time period if required. Also try a keyword search – compare your results.
6. Find information about the artists involved in the Aesthetic Movement in North America.
Hint: Use the ‘Explore’ menu. Select Aesthetic Movement from ‘Styles and Cultures’ and North America from ‘Geography’.
7. Find information about contemporary Australian Aboriginal artists.
Hint: Use the ‘Explore’ menu. Select Australia from ‘Geography’, Aboriginal Australia and Oceania from ‘Styles and Cultures’, then limit further by time periods.
