1. Who was the headline act for the 2007 Big Day Out?
Hint: Do a basic search, entering “big day out” in quotation marks, then headline and 2007. Check the boxes for full text articles and to automatically ‘and’ all search terms.
2. Find publications dealing with natural health
Hint: Use advanced search and click on the publications tab. You can then search for ‘natural health’ as a subject and description.
3. Search the titles from the last question for information on treating cramps
Hint: Tick the boxes next to the publications and add them to the search. The titles should show up in the search box. In front of the titles add “(cramps) AND”. This will search for articles that mention cramps in the publications.
4. What is the latest figure for the population of New Zealand?
Hint: Use basic search and enter New Zealand population, with the box checked to automatically and all links.
5. Find articles from the New Zealand Herald on the Rainbow Warrior
Hint: Do an advanced keyword search for (rainbow warrior), entering “New Zealand Herald” in the publications box.
6. Look at the various resources the database has about New Zealand health
Hint: For a broad subject it is best to use the visual search. This lays out various branches of the subject in an easy to follow manner. Go into the visual search tab and enter health AND “New Zealand”. The circles represent various subject, while squares inside the circles represent articles. Clicking on a square will cause the article to appear on the right side of the screen.
7. Name three towns near Melbourne, Australia
Hint: Use images/video search and enter ‘melbourne australia’. Limit the search to images of maps. Click on the thumbnail to view the map and statistical information.
8. Find a biographical article on Sir Edmund Hillary. When and where was he born?
Hint: Use basic search, then click the subject tab. Browse for ‘Hillary, Edmund’, tick the box next to the appropriate subject heading and search. On the results page, limit the results to biographies by clicking the link. |
