New Zealand economy

The New Zealand statistics collection contains a number of up to date publications on New Zealand's economy and market polices. These are found on the shelf under the classification STAT 2 NZ 01 and include the OECD economic surveys New Zealand

Another good source of information are the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) publications, available as an eResource in the Digital Library.

The Statistics New Zealand monthly publication Key statistics also contains business, financial and overseas trade data. Statistics New Zealand also provides information online about New Zealand's economy and the volume and value of exports and imports.

Social statistics

Population

The library has the latest Census Reports from the 2001 census, plus the annual publication Demographic trends, which has the lastest population figures. Population statistics are found on the shelf under the classification STAT 2 NZ 02/03. They are also available online at Statistics New Zealand's population pages along with details about specific communities. See also the new population and sustainable development website.

Health, education and social issues

The library statistics collection has a number of publications on education, public health, housing and poverty issues. These include facts on smoking, alcohol and drug abuse, specific diseases such as cancer, indicators of social deprivation and crime statistics. They are all shelved under the classification STAT 2 NZ 04. Statistics are also available online for health, education, social themes and crime.

Other

The collection also has statistical information on a number of other subjects, including labour force and employment at STAT 2 NZ 05, the Auckland region - STAT 2 NZ 06, agriculture, foestry and fishing - STAT 2 NZ 14, tourism - STAT 2 NZ 15 and transport and energy issues - STAT 2 NZ 17. The statistics collection is housed on the first floor of the Central City Library. It is a reference only collection and includes an up to date copy of the New Zealand Official Yearbook.
