Heritage resources
A wide variety of original photographs and negatives relating to Auckland and New Zealand are available to view in the Special Collections department of Central Library. Three significant collections (Winkelmann, Firth, and Schmidt) have been catalogued and scanned and are available for viewing through the Heritage Images Online database in our Digital Library.
Auckland City Libraries also holds old photography magazines that are available to view.
Databases
Index New Zealand - A database available in our Digital Library. This includes abstracts of selected New Zealand serial publications, including newspapers and New Zealand journals about New Zealand and the South Pacific. Coverage extends from 1987 onwards and approximately 2000 documents are added monthly. Publications relating to photography range through New Zealand journal of photography, Art New Zealand and New Zealand PC World.
Databases are available through the digital library that index both local and international publications.
Art Gallery Library
The E H McCormick Research Library at Auckland Art Gallery/Toi o Tāmaki has an extensive collection of resources on both New Zealand and international art. It is located on the 1st Floor of the main Gallery building. All items are for reference use only in the library. The Art Gallery library also holds artist files that may include articles, newspaper clippings, photographs, press releases brochures, reviews, small exhibition catalogues and other ephemeral material. These may be searched for on the Auckland City Libraries catalogue using the keywords “artists file“ in a keyword search. |
