Auckland Auckland before the harbour bridge

This book has a strong visual architectural focus: buildings/streetscapes/ suburban views. Of particular interest are the matches of modern photographs to identical scenes from the past. The accompanying text provides useful general background information and local anecdotes.

Auckland: a pictorial history By Richard Wolfe. Image / NZ Book Council An historical survey of Auckland featuring many early architectural photographs and street views. This book includes a significant number of previously unpublished historic photographs. Information is arranged both chronologically and by suburb. Individual buildings and streets can be searched for in the extensive index.
