A largely photographic record of the development of Auckland from its foundation in 1840 to the opening of the Harbour Bridge in 1959.  This book has a strong visual architectural focus: buildings/streetscapes/ suburban views.  Of particular interest are the matches of modern photographs to identical scenes from the past.  The accompanying text provides useful general background information and local anecdotes.
