Community Information to You (CITY)  This database provides, among other things, links to organizations such as Arthritis NZ, Parkinsonism Society NZ, Alzheimers NZ. Simply type in the name of the disease or condition as a keyword search.

Accessable New Zealand This site has ideas and links to keep you living safely and independently.

Accident Compensation Corporation Provides information for older adults on preventing injury, living safely and preventing falls, etc.

Ageconcern  A very comprehensive site for older people living in New Zealand.  Offers links to health and disability advocacy groups such as the Alzheimers Society, Arthritis New Zealand, etc.

Agewell  Promotes healthy aging throughout New Zealand. It is administered by Age Concern North Shore and funded by the Ministry of Health.

Best Treatments  Backed by the British Medical Journal and based on the latest clinical evidence, BestTreatments offers information on which treatments really work. Note, not all treatments are available in New Zealand.

CarersNetNZ  Click on “Helpful Hints” in this website to find Resources for Seniors, District Health Boards, and Disability Resources plus much more!

Cochrane Library A collection of regularly updated evidence-based healthcare databases to help both clinicians and consumers make decisions about appropriate and effective health care.

Disability Resource Centre (DRC)  This community-focused organisation is experienced in disability services. They have a showroom where you can purchase/rent a wide selection of mobility 'vehicles' and purchase other items to assist you in your daily living.

Eldernet  This website provides timely, relevant, up to date, comprehensive information about services for older people.

Enable New Zealand  If you have an age-related disability, you may qualify for funding through Enable New Zealand.

Everybody  Provides useful and accurate health information for New Zealanders.  Content is written by medical writers and reviewed by consumer health organizations and health professionals.

Ezimed  This site allows you to compare health insurance packages from Tower Health, ING Life, Sovereign and AIA.

Health & Disability Commissioner  Self-described as promoting and protecting the rights of health and disability consumers, and facilitating the fair, simple, speedy and efficient resolution of complaints.

Healthpoint  Piloted by the Counties Manukau District Health Board and several private medical organizations, this site helps you find hospitals, clinics, patient support groups, etc.

Hearing Association  The Hearing Association provides support to all persons with hearing loss.

HONcode A watchdog group that helps people decide if health information on the Internet is based on scientific studies or opinions.  HONcode evaluates websites based on standards they have set. You can check particular web sites on this site.

MedlinePlus Senior Health Pages A health site for the lay person, developed by the National Library of Medicine in the U.S.

Medical Register This international site diercts you to retailers selling assistive devices, mobility scooters, and similar home health care merchandise. Type the item you are looking for in the search box, choose keyword and limit to New Zealand from the drop down menu.

Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand  This organization works to improve the mental health of all people and communities in New Zealand.

Mind, Body & Spirit  This links to the library's Body, Mind & Spirit pages from which you can link to Men's Health, Women's Health, Consumer Health, etc.

Ministry of Health  Provides information on MOH initiatives regarding health and older people.

Needs Assessment and Service Co-ordination (NASC) This website describes the services of the Auckland District Health Board's NASC.  They assist older people with long-term disabilities/health problems (longer than 6 months) to remain living at home, safely & independently. Once the assessment is completed, NASC develops a package of support services.  They also help with residential care decisions. There are Needs Assessors working throughout New Zealand.

NIHSeniorHealth The health web page for older people from the U.S. National Institute on Aging.

Osteoporosis NZ  This site not only offers information on osteoporosis, but also has a 1 minute self test to determine your risk of developing the disease.

Piperpat  Provides links to many New Zealand health-related websites. 

Royal New Zealand Foundation for the Blind  Provides information regarding the foundation's services to blind, vision-impaired and deafblind people.

St. John Caring Caller  This is a free long-term friendship service that puts you in touch every day with someone who cares about you.  It is not a help line.  It is a friendship that both you and your Caring Caller can get much enjoyment from.

SPARC  SPARC (Sport & Recreation New Zealand) are dedicated to getting New Zealanders moving! They also sponsor the Green Prescription (GRx), which is a health professional's written advice to a patient to be physically active, as part of the patient's health management.

Tui Ora  An integrated health service organisation committed to enhancing health and wellbeing.

TVNZ Health Check out the health pages of TVNZ for the latest on health issues around the globe.

Webhealth  This site provides an alternate way to access information on health and social services in selected areas in New Zealand.

YMCA  Check your closest YMCA for their exercise programmes for active older adults.
