Pasifika people - in your neighbourhood

In your neighbourhood

"Oh, who are the people in your neighbourhood, In your neighbourhood, in your neighbourhood. Say who are the people in your neighbourhood-- The people that you meet each day?"

-Elmo, Sesame Street

Usually when we hear the teachers and elders talk of our Pasifika history they often tell us of the days on the island. Yet right here in Aotearoa there is a strong history of Pasifika people, the struggles they have endured and the triumphs they have won, which sometimes are forgotten. Your history can be found by looking in your library, talking with your fanau and aiga and discovering within your neighbourhoods the past.

These pages are dedicated to the people in our neighbourhoods who have lived these histories. They are also about people who will lead us into a whole new history, for the many generations to come. They are pages about Pasifika people doing things in our communities, Pasifika people who make a difference and Pasifika people will become role models for our younger generations to aspire to.

Pasifikan Idol Mua Strickson-Pua

Hailing from the mighty streets of Grey Lynn, Reverend Mua Strickson-Pua and his family have put in work for the younger generations over the many years. He has been a leader, both inspiring and free-stylin. This is his story.

Group Therapy Tau Fuata Niue

Tau Fuata Niue (Young Men of Niue) are an all-male crew, bound together by their passion for learning Niuean song and dance. Their style is a blend of traditional and contemporary, and the group's love for their culture is reflected in the enthusiasm of the groups' performances.
