Indic languages collection

The Indic languages collections in Bengali, Hindi and Gujarati and a new Urdu collection are held at Mt Albert Community Library. The Tamil collection is at Mt Roskill Community Library and the Panjabi collection is at Otahuhu Library. The Indic languages collection contains almost 1000 books and mainly includes fiction, and children's books but there are also some non-fiction books.

  • Jhara bakulera gandha - a Bengali novel by Chandika
  • Kursi kare kamaal  - selected humorous and satirical writings in Panjabi edited by K. A. Garaga
  • Sarahada para se - a Hindi novel by Mahendra Mittala
  • Gulara Begama -  a Gujarati novel by S. K. Pagare
  • Chanda and the mirror of moonlight - A children's book in Hindi by Margaret Bateson Hill

Indian magazines you can borrow include current issues of 'Outlook' and 'India Today International' - for a list, look up India periodicals.

Read the last three months of the Statesman Weekly in our Newspaper Room at the Central City Library.

Many Indian languages newspapers are available through Press Display.

Music CDs

You can browse our Indian music collection by using a subject search for 'India music' in the catalogue. Most of these are held at the Central City Library, but can be reserved and sent out to any library.
