Mt Albert Local History Timeline

Mt Albert local history collection

Mt Albert Community Library has a growing collection of local history material available for reference use. The collection includes photographs, ephemera, and scrapbooks. The widow of the late Fred McGehan QSM donated the basis of the collection to the library. Mr McGehan was a past president of the Auckland Historical Society.

In 1999, Mt Albert Library celebrated the ‘Year of the Older Person’ and asked local folk to write about their recollections of early Mt Albert. The handwritten notes were collated and bound into a book, Memories of Mt Albert. These recollections give an insight as to what life was like in the ‘early days’ of Mt Albert.

In 2002 we asked for some further memories of Mt Albert and fourty four Mt Albert residents who lived in the area during the thirties, forties and fifties sent in their memoirs.  These memoirs have been bound into Memories of Mt Albert – Book Two.

We welcome any photographs or information that could be added to our collection.
