Local history collection
You are invited to come and discover a treasury of information about the past and the present of Epsom and Mt Eden neighbourhood. The material has been collected and preserved by Epsom Community Library staff over a period of two decades.
Epsom Community Library local history file is part of our reference collection. It is comprised of:
- Three scrapbooks (Mt Eden/Epsom history file, Epsom Community Library file, newspaper articles file).
- One photo file (twenty six photographs).
- A small collection of ephemera (programmes, booklets, brochures).
- Family History Research File (recommended resources, services and web pages.)
- A complete collection of Experience, Mt Eden/Epsom local periodical that has been published in 2002, 2003 and 2004 as a supplement to the Central Leader.
- Epsom Police Community Support Newsletter - a complete set published in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005.
- Documents, reports and plans regarding the closure of the old Epsom Branch Library and construction of the new building at 195 Manukau Road.
- Memories of the Neighbourhood Around My 'Epsom Patch' in the 1930's -1940's, by Jack Baker, in 2 editions : 7 November 1994 and 1 October 1997.
- Early Epsom, compiled by the staff of Epsom Branch Library, Auckland, 1972.
- A History of Postal Services in the “Epsom Block“, compiled by G.I. Robertson, Waikowhai, Auckland, August 2002.
- Management Plan for Maungawhau/ Mt Eden Domain/, prepared by H A Turbott, Landscape Architect, 6 St. Paul Street, Auckland, in association with Mt Eden Borough Council Engineering Staff, 1986.
- Mt Eden Historial Gazette, Mt Eden Centennial Gazette 1868-1968, Century of Porgress, 1968.
Library staff continue to collect clippings from local and daily newspapers of anything relating to Epsom and Mt Eden area.
