There is currently an intermittent problem when using Internet Explorer to request or renew items where after the request is made the website defaults to a login screen. This has been found to only affect Internet Explorer users and in some cases can be remedied using the possible fixes detailed below.
22 August 2007
We have completed our testing on the Xtra and Yahoo web mail sites, and as a result, both sites have been unblocked. Please note when accessing Xtra, when you get to the download page, you need to click on "Don't Install". If you click on "Download Now" it will be blocked anyway.
20 August 2007
As a result of the Xtra upgrade that took place at the weekend (18 - 19 August), it has become apparent that Xtra's 'new' software is having an impact on our public internet computer configurations. This is happening when people log in to the Xtra web site to check their emails. In light of this, we will be blocking access to Xtra web mail, effective immediately, pending further investigation as to the extent of the impact.

There is currently an intermittent problem when using the 'reverse year' sorting option in the catalogue.
The records from a subject search, sorted by reverse year do not display the correct bib records consistently. When clicking on an item the details for the first record display instead of the actual details for the item. This occurs for the first ten in the list. We are currently working towards a solution on this problem.
2 May 2007 - updated 23 May 2007 / 31 January 2008
A number of people are currently experiencing problems logging into 'my info' and eResources, and also using the catalogue. Some are seeing strange lines of code appearing at the top of the page, others are unable to complete their request or renewal. Unfortunately we have not been able to pinpoint exactly what the issue is. However, it seems to be related to a major upgrade of our Catalogue software on Waitangi weekend (5 February 2007).

Possible fixes
Some people have resolved similar issues by doing one or more of the following:
- For people using Internet Explorer version 6 the general fix seems to be either:
- upgrade the browser to the latest version, or
- disable HTTP compression (see how to below)
- Resetting their web browser default settings (see how to below)
- Clearing their temporary internet files (see how to below)
- Refreshing pages and reseting bookmarks/favourites for 'My info' to http://www.elgar.govt.nz/patroninfo~S2
- Upgrading their virus checking/security software
- Disable Content Advisor in Internet Explorer
Please let us know if any of these help you.

1. Open Internet Explorer 6 2. Go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced 3. Scroll down to HTTP 1.1 settings, and uncheck "Use HTTP 1.1" 4. Click OK

February 2007
We are upgrading our library catalogue system. During the upgrade some online services may be unavailable for short periods of time. More detail about the upgrade and possible service interruptions is set out below.
Service interruption
The catalogue, 'My info' and Airpac are scheduled to be upgraded from 8.30pm Monday 5 February to 7am Wednesday 7 February. During this time you may not be able to renew, request or search for items, or use the telephone renewals service.
Please note that Tuesday 6 February (Waitangi Day) is a "Library Closed Day" and we will not charge overdues for that day.
We apologise for any inconvenience.
New catalogue features
As part of the software upgrade there will be a few new features added to the library catalogue. These changes include:
- 50 search results appearing on a page at a time, instead of 12.
- Better advanced keyword search results - A keyword search will provide relevancy ratings to help determine how relevant a search result it. It is divided into up to five groups, with the best results at the top and remaining results subdivided based on relevance.
- An improved Cart/Requesting process.
- Improved layout of the 'My info’ page.
- Some buttons may not be in the same position as before.
Remember to look at 'Help' within the catalogue if you are unsure how to use the various catalogue features.
These new features will be available at approx. 7am Wednesday 7 February. |
