The idea for Travel Nights (regular talks with guest speakers about travelling) came from witnessing the large amount of travel guides taken out of the library. As the library is a great resource for those interested in the world, the introduction of Travel Nights was a great way to expand and accentuate this value.
Background:
- the first Travel Night was in July 2007 with Graham Reid talking on 'The Great Rock'n'Roll Pilgrimage'
- talks are generally about:
- specific geographical areas or countries
- particular themes e.g. financial planning, safety tips, technical advice, photography tips and ethics
- experiences e.g. making a music travel television series

- interested in geography and culture
- the curious to vicariously experience parts of the world they may never see

- willing to help with any specific questions
- occasionally specialists e.g. travel photographers, writers and agents
