Auckland City Libraries collection of standards.
A standard is a published document that sets out the minimum requirements necessary to ensure that a material, structure, product, method, or system will do the job it is intended to do.
Standards can be for practically any subject you can think of, from aspects of construction to the safety of toys.
Our collection
We have an extensive collection of standards held on the first floor
of the Central City Library. The collection includes:
- New Zealand standards (NZS)
- Australian standards (AS)
- joint Australia/New Zealand standards (AS/NZS)
- international standards (ISO)
- compliance document for New Zealand building code
- other codes and manuals, such as The food standards code (also available online), and codes for transporting dangerous goods.
Using and borrowing the standards collection
Library members can borrow standards for seven days at a cost of $20.
Library members can view standards at no charge at the Central City Library. A library card will be required.
Non-members can view standards in the library for a cost of $1. Photo ID is necessary.
New Zealand standards online
Auckland City Library members can view the
Standards New Zealand database, which contains New Zealand standards (NZS) and joint Australian/New Zealand standards (AS/NZS). The database is only accessible at our branches and will require a library card and PIN to access.
Related resources
You may also find it helpful to look at related law resources such as Acts (or Statutes) and regulations. For example, the New Zealand standard NZS 3604 Timber Framed Buildings could be used in conjunction with The Building Act 1991 and The Building Amendment Regulations 2003.
If you do not have the name or number of an Australian standard, try the Standards Australia database. Once you locate the correct standard, search our library catalogue. You cannot view standards at the Standards Australia database.
