Language courses at Auckland City Libraries

Auckland City Libraries offers you the chance to learn up to 63 different languages using a comprehensive collection of books, dictionaries, audio language learning courses and downloadable audio books.

English and Maori courses are free.

All other language courses have a fee of $2 for 14 days.


Learning English

For anyone wishing to learn English or improve their existing skills, a wide variety of excellent resources are available from Auckland City Libraries.

These resources include:
  • Many English language courses, including IELTS, TOEFL and TOEIC.
  • A large range of graded readers suitable for both English learners and adult literacy students that cover all abilities from beginners through to more advanced students.
  • Books with compact discs where the text matches the spoken word.
  • Downloadable audio books.


IELTS

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) assesses the language ability of students who need to study or work where English is the principal language of communication.

An extensive collection of IELTS material is available from Auckland City Libraries.
 

How to find IELTS resources

At the Central City Library, IELTS book and CD sets are available on the First Floor enquiry desk.

IELTS items are very popular. If you require a particular exam or book, it is best to place a hold on the item.

Listening facilities for CDs are available on the First Floor of the Central City Library.


Learning Te Reo Māori

Auckland City Libraries has a wide variety of language courses for students of Te Reo. These are available in different formats and can consist of books, CDs, or a combination of both. Some courses are available on video.


Learning other languages

Courses for over sixty different languages are available from Auckland City Libraries, these cater for students of all levels and can comprise of books, CDs, or a combination of both.
