Our children's collections are designed to introduce and support a child's love of books and take them on a journey of discovery, fascination and enjoyment.
Picture books and board books
Board books introduce babies to holding and turning pages without accidents. Picture books have many purposes, of greatest importance is the sharing of a beautiful experience of image and story between adult and child.
Jigsaw puzzles
These provide an important role in child development - hand and eye coordination, learning basic concepts with shapes and colours. We have simple four piece puzzles for toddlers and variously more complex ones for older children.
Children's fiction
Some beautifully illustrated, some wonderfully written, the books in our children's fiction section offer a great selection appropriate for young readers.
Easy to read
For children who are just learning to read, these readers are designed by educators to develop confidence with fun stories, easy to read type and plenty of illustrations. We have some of the resources used in the classrooms but we mainly source outside those school resources from Australia, the U.K. and the United States.
Comics / graphic novels
Our collection of children's comics is very wide ranging from Asterix and Tintin to 'sophisticated picture books', puzzle and maze books, phonics designed for reluctant readers and very junior manga.
Children's non-fiction
Our children's nonfiction collection covers science, inventions, history, sports, animals, health and arts and crafts.
Music CDs
Kids love songs and rhymes and our CD collection is covers music from throughout the centuries and from across the globe.
Parenting collection
We have a range of items in our parenting collection, including books, DVDs and digital resources.
Audio books
For young readers to read along with, or for children just to listen to, we have a selection of audio books to cater to a range of different age levels.
Digital Library resources
We have a number of eResources and databases for children available through the Auckland City Libraries' Digital Library.
