Loan periods and charges

Auckland City Libraries offers both free and rental items for you to borrow. After the initial loan period ends, you may be able to renew the item for a further period.


Overdue Items

If an item is returned after the date it was due back, a daily overdue charge will apply. See the table below for the charges.

How many items can I take out on my card?

You can have up to 35 items in total out on your card at any one time.

You can renew items one time only. If somebody has placed a hold on the item, you will not be able to renew it. Renewing an item yourself via our website or our phone system is free. If a staff member renews an item for you, there is a charge of $1.

You must pay the rental charge on an item upon borrowing. You can renew rental items one time only. The same rental charges and loan periods apply. You cannot renew online - you will need to get staff to renew the item for you, either via phone or in person.

Requests

There is no charge for requests on titles from the children's and teen collections. 

Requests on titles from the adult collections cost $1 per title. (Some concessions apply).

 The charge includes locating and removing the item from the collection, and holding it at any Auckland City Library for you to collect.

Requests are held for eight days, and you will receive notification when the item is available for you to collect. You can cancel a request at no charge.

Requests are not available on items from the What's HOT! collection or on magazines.


Payment of fines and charges

You can pay your fines and charges for rental items at the issues desk at any of the libraries or alternatively, you can pay online using a credit card.

To pay online login to My Info and select ‘Pay fines and charges’ (this button will only appear if you have charges on your account). You will receive confirmation of payment once your transaction is complete.
