Other membership types

Provides information about membership options available at Auckand City Libraries, including Access (group), Access homebound, Access personal, and Bond membership.

Auckland City Libraries offers a range of membership categories to customers.

The following membership categories are exceptions to the norm and we recommend customers contact Auckland City Libraries to discuss their membership options with library staff before applying for membership.


Resthome (group care facilities)

This membership is for resthomes and other group care facilities who pay rates, or who lease a property that is located in Auckland City.

A representative from the group care facility must be enrolled as the person responsible for the membership and permission to enrol must be provided by the organisation in the form of a letter on corporate letterhead.

Housebound

This membership is available to Auckland City residents who cannot travel to a library due to advancing age or permanent disability, and who have no alternative means of obtaining library material.

Eligibility for this membership is determined by a referral from an agency that supports the customer's disability.

Special Access Needs

This membership is for customers who have a disability that affects them in one of the following ways:
  • sensory, for example, visual, hearing
  • physical, for example, mobility or dexterity impairment
  • psychiatric
  • intellectual
  • neurological.
Special access needs members are entitled to concessions including free audiobooks and music CDs.

To join under this category of membership, you need to provide:
  • personal photo identification
  • proof of your current residential address (mail that you have received within the past four weeks)
  • a condition of this membership is the customer must supply proof of their disability.

Bond membership

There are two circumstances under which a bond membership may be required:

1. Overseas visitors who are residing in Auckland City and whose visas are valid for less than six months from the day of enrolment.

To join under this category of membership you need to provide:
  • your passport (including your current visa)
  • proof of address (mail addressed to you that has been posted to your current residential address within the past four weeks).
2. Anyone residing in Auckland City in what is considered by the library to be temporary accommodation (for example, backpackers and hotels) and who will be staying at that address for an expected time period of at least one month.

To join under this category of membership, you need to provide:
  • personal photo identification
  • a letter, on corporate letterhead, from the residence where you are staying. The letter should state that you are currently residing there and that you are expected to do so for at least one month.
The cost of a bond membership is $70: $40 refundable bond monies and $30 non-refundable service fee. Bond members are limited to a maximum number of five items on loan at any one time from the library.
