About Auckland City Libraries

Print this page.
Auckland City Libraries has a strong community focus, offering many opportunities to join in events and activities at the libraries. These include author talks, book clubs, kids storytimes, school holiday programmes, concerts, heritage exhibitions, and much more. Many of our libraries offer computer classes for beginners and homework centres.

The libraries work together to provide an extensive collection of fiction and non fiction material (including large print and audio books) as well as a great choice of music, DVDs, games, newspapers and magazines.

There are collections and services aimed specifically at kids, teens, and Māori, as well as a growing collection of material in a wide range of community languages.

The libraries have vast reference collections of books, journals and other material (including sheet music and language courses). The Digital Library is our online library of eResources and databases that feature indexes and full-text articles on every subject imaginable.

Heritage collections range from recently published books and documents to Māori language and medieval manuscripts, and are recognised as being of national and international significance. We provide key resources for family history and local history research.

We use our website to make it easier for our customers to access key services and a wealth of information:

  • our online catalogue can be used to browse and search for authors, titles or subjects from a computer at home, work or at the library
  • members can log in to 'My info' to request and renew books and manage their library account
  • Airpac can be used to search the catalogue and request and renew on a WAP enabled mobile phone or similar device
  • the Digital Library makes major resources such as the Encyclopedia Britannica available to everyone online, instead of being restricted to one or two locations in a print format

Our librarians are a great source of knowledge and can assist with your research. Need help? Ask a Librarian.
