Manuscripts online is a catalogue of the:
  • Non-New Zealand Manuscript Collection. A collection of miscellaneous non-new Zealand manuscripts ranging in date from 1558 to the 20th century.
  • New Zealand Manuscripts Collection. This consists of manuscripts and archives relating to New Zealand, particularly Auckland and Northland, from the early 19th century to the present. Current collecting concentrates on the performing arts, environmental, social action and community groups, music, literary papers, women's organisations, Māori collections, and personal papers and diaries.

Note: Some of the larger manuscript collections have inventories or finding aids. These can be searched by keyword from the advanced search screen and downloaded as a PDF document.

This information is suitable for researchers, family historians, genealogists and students (secondary and tertiary).

The collection includes: 
  • Records of businesses, schools, churches and societies
    • Examples include: Mercury Theatre, Auckland Provincial Council, Project Jonah, George Courts Ltd and St Andrew's Presbyterian Church
  • Personal diaries, journals and papers
    • Examples include: Phil Warren, John A. Lee and Sarah Matthew
  • Letters
    • Examples include: Samuel Marsen, James Busby, James Reddy Clendon, Robin Hyde and Frank Sargeson
